Durham Next helps turn vision into action. At any given time, we’re prioritizing several projects identified within Durham’s Destination Master Plan. This tracker is where you can look for updates and milestones along the way.
You may find Durham Next leading the development of these projects or partnering in the community to move them forward. Above all, we’re a convener, bringing together the public and private sectors to advance local projects that ensure that tourism doesn’t just happen in Durham, but for Durham.

The project is being evaluated to determine its viability and potential to deliver community benefit.
Phase 2: Engage
Community members and other Durham stakeholders are being engaged to shape the project’s final design.
Phase 3: Fund
Project partners are pursuing funding commitments from the public and private sectors to move the project forward.

Project is in development.

Project is complete and available for public use.
Accelerate: A Durham Festival Collective
Durham Next is investing in existing events led by local festival producers to grow their economic impact and further Durham’s identity as a vibrant and entrepreneurial destination.
Convention and Events Center and Headquarter Hotel
Durham Next is exploring how a modernized Convention and Events Center can create economic benefits for Durham residents and serve as a community asset.
Durham County Memorial Stadium
In partnership with Durham County and the Durham Sports Commission (DSC), Durham Next is identifying opportunities to upgrade the stadium's capabilities to host more championship-level matchups.
Durham Next Impact Fund
Durham Next is investing in local events and activations that attract visitors to Durham and increase the impact their dollars have in the community.
Multipurpose Sports Facility
In partnership with the Durham Sports Commission (DSC), Durham Next is pursuing the creation of a multipurpose, indoor-outdoor sports facility to support local events and recreational opportunities.
Music and Events Venue
In partnership with the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), Durham Next is exploring the development of a new music and live events venue in downtown Durham.
‘Welcome to Durham’ Signage at RDU Airport
In partnership with Discover Durham, Durham Next is leading the creation and installation of signage in our main airport terminal to welcome travelers.
